About Activism at ALLIES
ALLIES hosts various events throughout the year to involve the CMU campus in issues about gender and orientation. Many of the events we do center on education and raising awareness. We celebrate dates such as Ace Awareness Day, Bi Visibility Day, and Trans Awareness Month, table at events, and host panels and speakers.
Examples of recent events include: Trans/Nonbinary Day of Visibility Tabling; National Coming Out Day panel; Counterprotesting the Westboro Baptist Church; Break the Silence, an open mic night to celebrate Day of Silence; collaborating with other organizations at CMU to host Laverne Cox.

Upcoming Activism Events
Activism Discussion Series: Gender
Join us on April 24th from 5-6pm in CUC Caffee for a discussion about gender and the LGBTQ+ community! We will be discussing privilege, the difference between gender and orientation advocacy, gender expression vs identity, and more!
Open Mic Night
ALLIES will be hosting an Open Mic Night on April 26 from 8-9:30 in the Studio Theater! Through this event, we seek to spotlight the challenges that marginalized groups face while also celebrating the diversity present in all of our communities. The performances need not relate explicitly to LGBTQ+ issues. In fact, we encourage performers to illuminate the different aspects of their identity (e.g. race/ethnicity, religion, etc.) through various media like spoken word, slam poetry, singing, playing instruments, and so on.
